Clinical manifestations of Hepatitis C: Hepatitis C viral infection causes metabolic changes in patients and clinical manifestations of the disease which include an increase in the generation of free radical reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the mitochondria of infected cells, an increase in cellular inflammation, steatosis, or the abnormal accumulation of lipids inside the cells of the liver, cellular membrane and interior organelle membrane damage resulting in loss of membrane integrity, fluidity and function, membrane phospholipid translocation, and the activation of the cellular transcription factor NFkappaB. All of these metabolic imbalances combine to cause a slow but persistent accumulation of scar tissue (fibrosis or cirrhosis) in the spaces of the liver.

HepTech Comprehensive Medical Food Protocol is formulated to manage the distinctive nutritional requirements of Hepatitis C patients and to ameliorate specific clinical manifestations of Hepatitis C infection. These clinical manifestations include increased levels of oxidative stress, increased levels of cellular inflammation, activation of NFkappaB and the disruption of interior and exterior cellular membrane lipid profiles, fluidity, and function. These clinical manifestations all combine to trigger (through activation of NFkappaB) the generation of fibrosis or cirrhosis in the liver. The HepTech Protocol is designed to ameliorate these clinical manifestations of Hepatits C and thereby eliminate the triggers of fibrogenesis and stop the progression of fibrosis or cirrhosis in Hepatitis C patients.
